Obituary for Alex Vezza

Alex  Vezza
Alex Vezza, 65, of Clearfield, died on Thursday, April 28, 2016.

He was born on June 2, 1950 in Clearfield, a son of the late Frank and Mary (Macaluso) Vezza.

Alex was employed his entire life as a Math teacher, beginning at Bald Eagle Area School for his first 9 years and then retiring from Clearfield High School after 22 years. During his teaching career at Bald Eagle Area, Alex was the assistant football coach and head track and field as well as cross country coach. After moving to Clearfield, he was the head coach for both track and field and cross country.

He was a member of the St. Francis Catholic Church, Clearfield, the Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks Lodge #540, Clearfield and a life member and current officer of the Clearfield Sons and Daughters of Italy Due Palme Lodge #189. Alex was also an avid golfer, hunter and fisherman.

He also was the 'family chef'. He enjoyed making homemade pasta and famous for 'Pappy bread' as well as mastering the art of winemaking and tasting. Above all else, Alex will be remembered most for his love and dedication as a husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend.

He is survived by his wife, Cindy (Henry) Vezza whom he wed July 3, 1971; three children, Matthew Vezza and wife Annie of Clearfield, Leigh Short and husband Gage of Walnut Creek, CA and Maggie Lingle and husband Tim of Lancaster; six grandchildren, Jeremiah Vezza, Ryder, Carly, Juel and Maren Short, and Talan Lingle; two brothers, Joseph 'Jody' Vezza and wife Amy of Clearfield and Tom Vezza and wife Carrie of State College; a niece, Erica Vezza; and two nephews, Andrew 'Andy' Vezza and Joshua 'Josh' Vezza.

Mass of Christian burial will be said at the St. Francis Catholic Church, Clearfield on Wednesday at 10:00 am with Msgr. Henry L. Krebs as celebrant.

Friends will be received at the Kevin A. Beardsley Funeral Home, Clearfield on Tuesday from 4-7 PM and Wednesday from 9-9:30 AM.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Myotonic Dystrophy Association, 1004-A O'Reilly Avenue, San Francisco, CA 94129 (www.myotonic.org/donate) or to the Alzheimer's Association, Greater PA Chapter, 270 Walker Drive, State College, PA 16801.
