Obituary for Edith B. Stone (Butler)

Edith Butler Stone, 93, of Clearfield died on Wednesday, June 28, 2017 at the Ridgeview Elder Care and Rehabilitation Center, Curwensville.

She was born on January 19, 1924 in Clearfield County, a daughter of the late Frances (Liddle) Butler and John Butler and was the eldest of 10 children. She was married to the late George Stone.

Edith attended Clearfield High School and received her GED later in life. She was a homemaker who raised six children as well as working various jobs during her lifetime. She loved reading, going for walks and gardening in her younger years. She loved to spend time on the phone and volunteered as a 'Phone Friend.' She also volunteered for the literacy council teaching reading. She loved attending choir and band concerts and visiting with family.

She is survived by four children, Denny Stone and wife Linda of Lanse, Barbara Bauer and husband Gerald of MN, Jesse Stone of MO, and Fran McDaniel and husband Charles of FL. She is also survived by a daughter-in-law, Jacqulyn (Baumgardner) Stone and former daughter-in-law, Linda Rubly; twenty grandchildren; 44 great grandchildren; six great great grandchildren; three brothers, Leroy, Dick and John; and four sisters, Evelyn, Melva, Vera and Vivian.

In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by two sons, Glenn Stone and Harlan Stone; two granddaughters, Christina Stone and Kimberly Sponsler; one great grandbaby, Savannah Bauer; a brother Harry Butler; and a sister, Imogene Price.

Services will be announced at a later date. Interment will be in the Stoneville Cemetery, Clearfield.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Joseph and Elizabeth Shaw Public Library, 1 South Front Street, Clearfield or to the charity of your choice.
