Obituary for Katherine S. Forcey (Shugarts)

Katherine S. Forcey (Shugarts)
Katherine S. Forcey, 93, of Clearfield, died on Sunday, June 10, 2018 at Penn Highlands Clearfield.

She was born on August 14, 1924 in Boggs Township, a daughter of the late Date V. and Katherine (Hynd) Shugarts.

Katherine was a homemaker and a member of West Side Church of Christ, Clearfield. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, crafting and visiting with family and friends. She was always ready with a smile and hearty laughter, and loved country music and hymn sings at her church. She considered it a blessing and honor that she was able to visit friends and relatives who might be hospitalized, or in Nursing Homes in the surrounding area throughout her life.

On June 20, 1944 she wed Paul G. Forcey of Woodland at Woodland Methodist Church. They spent many years moving from one state to another, one country to another, while he served in the U. S. Air Force. They settled in the Shiloh area upon his retirement, and eventually moved to Florida, where Paul passed away on July 15, 1988.

She is survived by seven children: Paul G. Forcey, Jr. and wife Bonnie of Paso Robles, CA, Philip J. Forcey and wife Becky of Lynchburg, VA, Katherine M. Forcey of Brooklyn, New York, John M. Forcey and wife Becky of Clearfield, Mary F. Straley and husband Jack of Olanta, Jean E. Maines and husband Marvin of Woodland, and Elizabeth A. Forcey and husband George Whitaker of Grampian; a brother, William B. Shugarts of Morrisdale and numerous nieces and nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Margaret Franson, and a brother, George Shugarts.

A Celebration of Katherine’s Life will be held at West Side Church of Christ, Clearfield on Saturday, August 4, at 10AM.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to West Side Church of Christ, 219 Merrill Street, Clearfield, PA 16830.

The Kevin A. Beardsley Funeral Home, Clearfield is in charge of arrangements.
