A Meaningful Memorial

It's important to recognize that funerals are for the living ... for those who will suffer the trauma of losing a loved one. It is through the funeral process that a number of emotional needs are met for those who grieve.

The funeral declares that a death has occurred. It commemorates the life that has been lived, and offers family and friends the opportunity to pay tribute to their loved one. The funeral is a rite of passage by which we recognize an important event that distinguishes our lives.

As funeral directors, we want to help you create the most meaningful ways of offering tribute to the life of a loved one. This will demand, at least for a day or two, your focus and your time. But the planning needn't be a burden if you keep in mind that the energy you expend now to create a personalized, inclusive ceremony will help you and other mourners in your grief journeys for years to come.

Involved in this planning, may consist of selecting a non-traditional location for a service, special displays, which may be photographs or other cherished effects, representing personal or professional achievements, hobbies, unique interests or talents.

For many, funerals are most meaningful when they involve a variety of people who had a relationship with the person who died. You might ask family or friends to give a reading, deliver the eulogy, share an interesting story of the deceased, play music or sing, or even help plan the funeral.
