Ada C. Mahoney, 77 of 813 Dorey Street, Clearfield died on Saturday, July 2, 2005 at Clearfield Hospital.
She was born on February 7, 1928 in Clearfield, a daughter of the late Harry and Angelica Circolo.
A 1945 graduate of Clearfield Schools, Mrs. Mahoney was an entertainer/vocalist with local dance bands, Rockwell, Hepburn, Smith and others, playing in fraternal/social clubs in Clearfield and surrounding areas. Later, she was the vocalist for the Bowman and McCarthy orchestras of Harrisburg, the latter being one of several appearing for PA's Governor Fine's Inaugural at Zembo Mosque; was a regular vocalist for both bands at supper clubs, colleges, etc. in Harrisburg, Hershey Park and neighboring areas from 1945-1951.
While residing in New Jersey from 1951 until 1977 she was interviewed and accepted by Mary Mencken of the American Theatre Wing (Circa 1957) after appearing in productions for the Group Players of Trenton and the Jewish Community Center, also designing sets for both groups. She attended the McDowell's School of Design in New York City and years of night study at School Industrial Arts (Fine Arts) in Trenton.
She worked for the Department of Transportation and the Department of Law. Later, from 1956-58, she was the secretary in Governor Meyner's counsels office. From 1958-73, she was secretary to Judge Frank J. Kingfield, Superior Court Assignment Judge for the counties of Mercer, Hunterdon and Somerset, and after his retirement, worked briefly for the Administrative Office of the courts and later for Judge Arthur Meredith, J.S.C. of Somerville, NJ. During the 1960's, she was President of the Trenton Chapter of Legal Secretaries Association and was elected First Vice-President of its state organization.
She was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church, Clearfield and the Martha Washington Lodge #1525 of Clearfield.
She is survived by a sister/niece Catherine (Jones) Reali of Rome, Italy and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, J. Willard 'Red' Mahoney on September18, 1966, two sisters Vilge "Jill" Circolo Jones and Elva W. Circolo and a brother Albert L. Circolo.
Mass of Christian Burial will be said at St. Francis Catholic Church, Clearfield on Wednesday at 9:00 AM. with Msgr. H. Desmond McGee, Jr. as celebrant. Interment will be in the St. Mary Cemetery, Trenton, NJ.
Friends will be received at the Kevin A. Beardsley Funeral Home, Clearfield on Tuesday from 7-9:00 PM.
A Christian Vigil Service will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday at 9:00 PM.
