Anthony Sorbera

Anthony Sorbera, 93, of Clearfield died on Saturday, November 21, 2009 at Mountain Laurel Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Clearfield.

He was born on December 10, 1915 in Giosa Maria, Sicily a son of the late Gatano and Rose (Ettaro) Sorbera.

A shoemaker since he was 16, Mr. Sorbera owned and operated Anthony's Fine Shoe Repair, Clearfield for almost 60 years. He was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church, Clearfield and the Sons of Italy Lodge #189, Clearfield. A veteran of the US Army, he served during WW II. He was a member of the Clearfield American Legion John Lewis Shade Post #6, the Clearfield Veterans of Foreign Wars F. Michael Sicks Post #1785.

He is survived by a son, G. Thomas Sorbera, of Clearfield, a brother, Sam Sorbera, and his wife, Josephine, of Clearfield, and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Josephine Rose (Marino) Sorbera, on May 31, 1963 and whom he wed November 28, 1945, a brother and three sisters Joseph Sorbera, Nicoletta Miraglia, Tindara Sorbera and Mary Accordino and a longtime companion, Betty Kuna.

Mass of Christian Burial will be said at St. Francis Catholic Church, Clearfield on Tuesday at 10:00 A.M. with Msgr. Henry L. Krebs as celebrant. Interment will follow in the Calvary Cemetery, Clearfield.

Military honors will be accorded at the cemetery by the members of the Clearfield American Legion and Clearfield VFW Posts honor guard.

Friends will be received at the Kevin A. Beardsley Funeral Home, Clearfield on Monday from 6-8:00 PM and on Tuesday from 9-9:30 AM.

A Christian vigil service will be recited at the funeral home on Monday at 5:45 PM.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the St. Francis Educational Endowment Fund, 212 S. Front Street, Clearfield .
