Arthur S. 'Art' Bowes , 85, of Clearfield died on Monday, October 21, 2013 at the Clearfield Hospital.
He was born on July 31, 1928 in Clearfield, a son of the late C. Guy and Emma (Spencer) Bowes.
Mr. Bowes retired from Conrail where he was employed as a car repairman for nearly 35 years. Prior to that, he was a welder at a local business. Art will be remembered for his extreme loyalty to his friends, enjoying tracing his genealogy and most importantly spending time with his family. He was always looking after other people and making sure everyone and everything was taken care of.
He was a member of Emmanuel United Methodist Church, Clearfield and the John Lewis Shade Post #6 American Legion, Clearfield.
A veteran of the Korean Conflict, Mr. Bowes served with the U. S. Army.
He is survived by two daughters, Connie Wright and husband Doug and Brenda Bowes, all of Clearfield; three grandchildren, Kim Meyers and husband Rusty, Doug Wright and Katie Jeziorski and husband Brenden; and two great grandchildren, Molly and Spencer Meyers.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Thelma L. 'Weezie' (Stegner) Bowes on December 15, 2005 and whom he wed September 4, 1953 at the Emmanuel United Methodist Church, Clearfield.
Funeral services will be held at the Emmanuel United Methodist Church, Clearfield on Thursday at 11:00 am with Rev. Mark S. Brower officiating. Interment will be in the Hillcrest Cemetery, Clearfield.
Military honors will be accorded at church by the members of the Clearfield VFW and American Legion Posts' Honor Guards.
Friends will be received at the Kevin A. Beardsley Funeral Home, Clearfield on Wednesday from 3-6 PM at the church on Thursday from 10-11 AM.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Emmanuel United Methodist Church, 1010 Dorey Street, Clearfield.
