Arthur J. Peters, 91, a lifelong resident of Curwensville, died on Sunday, October 16, 2005 at his residence after a lengthy illness.
He was born on June 23, 1914 in Curwensville, a son of the late Paul and Olivia (Errigo) Peters.
Mr. Peters retired from the former Howes Leather Co., Curwensville, in 1976.
A veteran of WW II he served as staff sergeant in the 5th Armored Division. His tour of duty included England, Germany, France, Belgium, Holland and Luxenbourg. As a tank commander, he had named his tank "Curwensville". He received the bronze star and the good conduct medal.
Catholic by faith, he was a member of the Curwensville American Legion, Joshua Earl Sipes Post No. 505 and the 5th Armored Association.
He is survived by his wife, Eleanor Anne (Briggs) Peters, whom he married March 4, 1946, three children, Carol Krajewski and husband Andrew of MD, Janet Friel of Curwensville, Arthur Peters and wife Roxie of Clemmons, NC; seven grandchildren, Alison Krajewski, Steven Krajewski, Justin Krajewski and wife Cathy, Nathan Krajewski Rebecca Friel and husband David Kennedy, Austen Peters, Eric Wilson and wife Heidi; one great-granddaughter; a sister and brother, Mary Peters of Curwensville and Tony Peters and wife Rose Mary of FL; and his former son in law, William Wilson.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Josephine, Antoinette, and Gertrude, and a brother, Victor Peters.
A memorial service will be held at the Oak Hill Cemetery Chapel, Curwensville, on Thursday at 1:30 P.M. with Rev. Daniel T. Ledford and Mr. Gary Jewart officiating.
Military honors will be accorded at the cemetery by the members of the Clearfield American Legion Post No. 6 and the VFW Post No. 1785 Honor Guard.
