Bernice A. Kowalski, 70, of Hawk Run, formerly of Clearfield, died on Friday, May 18, 2012 at the DuBois Regional Medical Center.

She was born on September 10, 1941 in Gearhartville, a daughter of the late George W. and Anna E. (Hydock) Johnson.

Mrs. Kowalski was employed as a sales clerk at J.C. Penney from 1978 until she retired in 2000.
She was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church, Clearfield.

She is survived by her husband, William Edward 'Ed' Kowalski whom she wed April 23, 1960; three daughters, Christine (Kowalski) Miller and husband Joseph of Westover, Brenda (Kowalski) Elensky and husband Richard of Fresno, CA and Victoria 'Vicki' Kowalski of Clearfield; four grandchildren Stefan, Dathan and Sarah Bernice and Rachel Elensky; five sisters, Pauline Zelenka of Michigan, Lena Beranty of Philipsburg, Grace Frank of Philipsburg, Lucy Kebbel of Missouri and Claudia Bock of Philipsburg; and two brothers David Johnson of Morrisdale and Donald Johnson of Exeter.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four sisters, Mary Perow, Lillian Maney, Carrie Parada and Jane Johnson; and a brother Thomas Johnson.

Mass of Christian burial will be said at the St. Francis Catholic Church, Clearfield on Wednesday at 10 AM with Msgr. Henry L. Krebs as celebrant. Interment will follow in the Calvary Cemetery, Clearfield.

Friends will be received at the Kevin A. Beardsley Funeral Home, Clearfield on Tuesday from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM and on Wednesday from 9-9:30 AM.

At the funeral home on Tuesday, a Christian Vigil Service will be held at 1:45 PM and the Rosary will be recited at 5:45 PM.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to St. Francis Educational Endowment Fund, 212 South Front Street, Clearfield.
