Charles Richard 'Bummy' "Uncle Charlie' Bumbarger , 97, of St. Benedict, PA, formerly of Clearfield, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, November 7, 2023 at the St. Benedict Manor in St. Benedict, PA.
He was born on October 11, 1926 in Lackawanna, NY, a son of the late Howard and Sarah (Rischel) Bumbarger.
Charlie is a World War II veteran, severing as a private first class in the Air Corp 8th Air Force. He retired from the United States Postal Service in 1983 with 36 years of service. He was also a founding member of the Riverview Bible Church.
Charlie loved the Lord and his family. He is survived by a nephew, Robert Mitchell and wife Jen of Clearfield; a niece, Kimberly Morley and husband Moon of Hastings; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He is also survived by a special friend, Arlene O'Donnell and her late husband Jim. Charlie was known as 'Uncle Charlie' to numerous friends and other family members.
The family would like give special thanks to the staff at St. Benedict Manor who treated Charlie as family, as well as expressing thanks to 365 Hospice.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his two sisters, Sarah Jane Evans and Tena (Sturniolo) Mitchell; and a brother, William J. Bumbarger who was killed in Anzio Beachhead, Italy, on January 31, 1944 while serving in the US Army.
Funeral services will be held at the Beardsley Funeral Home and Crematory, Clearfield on Monday at 3 PM with Raymond Stiner officiating. Interment will be in the Hillcrest Cemetery, Clearfield.
Friends will be received at the funeral home on Monday from 1 PM - 3 PM.
