Charles Gordon ‘Bill’ Herrington, Jr., 80, of Savannah, GA died on Saturday, August 20, 2011 at JFK Memorial Hospital, Lake Worth, FL.
He was born on July 30, 1931 in Clearfield, a son of the late Charles Gordon and Thelma (Mitcheltree) Herrington.
He retired as the lead Civil Engineer for the Metropolitan Planning Commission in Savannah.
Bill studied Civil Engineering at both Yale University and Penn State University. He was also active in the Gordonston Garden Club, an avid tennis player, a Freemason and lover of all animals. He especially cherished his role as father and grandfather.
He served in the US Army, being discharged in 1957.
He is survived by three children, Jack Herrington and wife Lauren of Union City, CA, Charles Herrington and wife Joan of Boyton Beach, FL and Jennifer Bolduc and husband Thom of Walla Walla, WA; six grandchildren, Jimmy, Lee, Lauren, Jack, Cooper and Megan; and a sister, Jeanne Gallaher and husband David of Clearfield.
A Memorial Service will be held at the Kevin A. Beardsley Funeral Home, Clearfield on Friday at 11 AM with Rev. J. Robert Mellgard and Mr. Dick Barkley officiating. Interment will be in the Crown Crest Memorial Park, Hyde.
Friends will be received at the funeral home on Friday from 9-11 AM.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Humane Society for Greater Savannah, 7215 Sallie Mood Drive, Savannah, GA 31406; or to the charity of one’s choice.
