Charles R. 'Buzz' Johnston Jr., 75, of Clearfield passed away on Thursday, June 6, 2024 at the Penn Highlands Clearfield.
He was born on December 30, 1948 in Philipsburg, a son of the late Charles Robert Johnston and Helen (Stewart) Rogers.
Buzz graduated from Clearfield High School in 1966, then served with the US Navy from 1968 - 1972. After his military service he began school at Penn State University and graduated in 1975. He then worked as a CPA and the Managing Partner of Johnston, Nelson, Shimmel, and Thomas for 40 years.
He enjoyed traveling to various destinations, including Las Vegas where he loved to play craps, or his favorite place under the grape leaves in St. Maarten. Buzz also enjoyed diving and spear fishing. He was a dog lover and will be greatly missed by his little dog, Finn.
He was a former Commander of the John Lewis Shade American Legion Post #6, a past President of Clearfield Rotary Club, a board member of the former Clearfield Bank and Trust, and helped out a lot with the United Way. He was also a member of the Free and Accepted Masons Noble Lodge No. 480, The Jaffa Shriners, the Royal Order of Jesters, Ganado Club, Clearfield VFW Post 1785, and the Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks Lodge #540.
Mr. Johnston was a pillar of the community and will be remembered for his wittiness and sense of humor.
He is survived by his wife and love of his life, Linda Ann (Buzzanca) Johnston whom he wed May 20, 1967; two children, Charles 'Buzzy' R. Johnston III and wife Sonya, and Melinda Johnston; a granddaughter, Hannah Garner; an uncle, Dan Johnston and wife Larian and family; and his beloved dog, Finn. He is also survived by numerous friends and extended family; siblings, Mary and Marty; and nephews he loved.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Melanie Johnston; his paternal and maternal grandparents; a sister, Carol; and a nephew, Greg Odrosky.
A public visitation will be held at the Beardsley Funeral Home and Crematory, Clearfield on Thursday, June 13, 2024, from 4 - 7 PM.
Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. Interment will be in the Calvary Cemetery, Clearfield.
