Christopher “Chris” S. Askey, 23, of Mebane, NC and formerly of Curwensville, died Monday, September 5, 2016 as a result of injuries sustained in a hit and run accident. He was born May 12, 1993 in Clearfield, the son of Scott K. Jr. and Kelly L. (Hubler) Askey. He attended Curwensville Area schools and graduated from Curwensville Area High School in 2011, where he was a member of the wrestling team. He previously attended Indiana University of Pennsylvania and was planning on attending Alamance Community College before his death.
Following graduation from high school, Chris served his country in the U.S. Army Reserve with the rank of Specialist Four (SPC). SPC Chris Askey was currently assigned to 298th Support Maintenance Company, in Altoona, where he served as a Small Weapons maintenance operator.
Chris was known for his many interests including art, music and literature. He loved the study of philosophy. Although he seemed quiet and unassuming, his friends were blessed to see his infectious sense of humor and a surprising mischievous streak. He was just beginning to find his place in this world. In the end, his purpose was to provide life to others through organ donation.
Chris is survived by his beloved parents Scott and Kelly of Mebane, NC; and his sister Erin L. Welch-Selfridge and fiancée Sam from Clearfield. He also leaves his paternal grandmother, Suzanne Askey of Hawk Run; and the following aunts and uncles: Frank and Carla Delgado of Suffolk, VA; Tom and Lynn Shimel of Hawk Run; Shawn Askey and Danielle McDowell also of Hawk Run; and Rick and Kathleen Kasubick of Houtzdale. He will also be deeply missed by numerous great aunts and uncles, cousins, friends, and brother-in-arms.
A memorial service will be held at First Baptist Church, Curwensville on September 17, 2016 at 1 PM with Rev. Daniel Osterhout officiating. Burial will be held at Oak Hill Cemetery, Curwensville.
Friends will be received at the church on Saturday, September 17, 2016 beginning at 9 AM until the time of services.
