Clair (Pete) LeRoy Hallock, passed from this life at his home on Friday night, November 14, 2008. He was 96 years, 7 months and 5 days old. He was born in Clearfield April 2, 1912, son of Charles LeRoy and Ella R. (McClellan) Hallock. On April 9, 1931 he was married to Leila Rachel Mann daughter of David and Dena (Carr) Mann of Mt. Zion, Clearfield.
Mr. Hallock was raised in the Plymptonville area, and attended Clearfield schools. Prior to World War II, he relocated to Baltimore, MD were he was employed as a machinist for the Glenn L. Martin Aircraft Company. During his tenure there, he invented several tools. He was the recipient of many honors and accolades and in 1956 was presented the Purple Martin Award, the highest honor given to an employee for outstanding achievement. After his retirement, he and his wife returned to Clearfield and built their home off McGeorge Road.
Mr. Hallock was a skilled craftsman and possessed abilities in many trades. He had an avid interest in Clearfield history and genealogy, tracing his ancestry back to Clearfield pioneers and centuries beyond. He enjoyed traveling, the outdoors, and sharing stories with his family and many friends. His hobby was woodworking, one of his latest projects being a six person doxie, a winter recreation vehicle used in and around the Clearfield area for many years. He was a lifetime member of the I.O.O.F. He was known and respected as a loving husband, and father, a kind neighbor and friend, always ready to lend a helping hand.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Leila who died January 17, 1993; his parents; two grandsons, Robert and James Kirkpatrick; two sons-in-law, Robert K. Franklin, and John Murphy; three brothers and two sisters, George McClellan Hallock, Frederick Daniel Hallock, Charles R. Hallock, Marie Brandenburg and Lorana Hipps.
He is survived by his son, David LeRoy of Clearfield, four daughters, Dena Jeanne Murphy and Janet Carolyn Franklin of Baltimore, MD, Linda Leila and her husband, Ronald Ninkovich of New Park, PA, and Shirley Mae and her husband Harold Evans of Citrus Springs, FL and the following devoted grandchildren; Michael Kirkpatrick, Debra Brown, Diana Marks, David and Darold Evans, Teresa Prevatt, Robert Franklin, Laura Donelson, David and Douglas Ninkovich; 23 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at Kevin A. Beardsley Funeral Home, Clearfield on Wednesday at 11 AM with Rev. Kenneth J. Leonard officiating. Interment will follow in the Mt. Joy Cemetery, Clearfield.
Friends will be received at the funeral home on Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM and on Wednesday from 10-11 AM.
