Cloyd John Winters of Clearfield, a man whose wit was as sharp as his work ethic was strong, was called Home Friday, Nov. 1, 2024, at the age of 83. Known for his straightforward charm and quick, dry humor, John left an impression on everyone he met.
Born Sept. 20, 1941, in Clearfield to Allen P. and Hilda (Hudson) Winters, John was a pillar of hard work and resilience, having worked at Tafco. He was a member of the Sheet Metal Workers Union until his retirement, while also the purveyor of antiques and collectibles at Winter Barn Antiques. John had an uncanny ability to sum things up with a single wry remark, delivered with perfect timing and a straight face.
A life-long hunter, avid outdoorsman, and National Rifle Association member--above all, John took pride in his family. He wed his love Bonnie (Borst) Aug. 18, 1962. They were blessed with two sons, Tim and Todd, who provided him with years of mischief and adventure.
John was a faithful congregant at Grace United Presbyterian Church in Glen Richey with his very own “saved seat.”
Bonnie survives at Christ the King Manor in DuBois. John will forever be carried in the hearts of his boys and their wives: Tim (Dawn) and Todd (Tammy), all of Clearfield. He was PapPap extraordinaire to Luke, Alayna, and McKenna Winters; Morgen Turner; and Isabella Walls. He was Great PapPap to Eliza and Lilly.
He will also be dearly missed by his siblings: Bill (Fay) Winters of Kylertown, Hilda (Nick) Mayhew of Clearfield, and Joseph of San Diego, CA.
A celebration of John’s life will be held Thursday, Nov. 7, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Beardsley Funeral Home and Crematory in Clearfield. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Christ the King Manor, which provided loving and compassionate care. Friends and loved ones are invited to share memories or perhaps a few words of wisdom they learned from him along the way. John would also love it if you’d take a walk in the woods in his memory.
