Clyde Shifter

Clyde A. Shifter , 87

of Clearfield died on Wednesday, May 25, 2016 at Penn Highlands, Clearfield.

He was born on August 4, 1928 in Clearfield, a son of the late Dayton and Grace (Nebgen) Shifter.

Mr. Shifter retired from Clearfield Machine Company in 1990 after twenty six years of service. Prior to that he was employed by Clearfield Equipment for eleven years and was also a dairy farmer for twenty years.
He was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church, Clearfield, the Clearfield Knights of Columbus and the Over 50 Club of Luthersburg. He volunteered for the Clearfield County Area Agency on Aging. He was an original member of the 1957 Clearfield Square Dance Club and entertained by square and line dancing at local nursing homes and hospitals. He refinished and caned furniture and was an avid traveler. In addition, he loved hunting with his son, son-in-law and grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Eleanor M. (Marinoble) Shifter whom he wed July 29, 1950 in Clearfield: two daughters and a son, Joanne McCracken and husband Jerry, Judy Davis and husband Bob and David Shifter and wife Lisa, all of Clearfield; seven grandchildren; one step-granddaughter; eleven great grandchildren; three step-great grandchildren; a great grandchild expected in November; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was the last member of his immediate family, having been preceded in death by his parents; and his sisters and brothers, Geraldine Turner, Sylvia Green, Roselia Koozer, Helen Owens, Hazel Shifter, John Shifter, Gordon Shifter and Doryce Shifter.

Mass of Christian burial will be said at the St. Francis Catholic Church, Clearfield on Saturday at 10:00 am with Father John L. Miller as celebrant. Interment will follow in the Calvary Cemetery, Clearfield.

Friends will be received at the Kevin A. Beardsley Funeral Home, Clearfield on Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 pm and on Saturday from 9-9:30 am.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to St. Francis Educational Endowment Fund, 212 S. Front Street, Clearfield.
