Daniel Joseph Ryan was born March 30, 1936, in Green Bay, Wisconsin. He passed away on March 30, 2024, at Penn Highlands Hospital in DuBois, Pennsylvania on his 88th birthday.
He was known to everyone as “Uncle Dan”.
Dan graduated from St. Francis School in Clearfield, Pennsylvania and continued his education at John Carroll University in Ohio. After college, he joined the United States Army and was stationed at Fort Jackson, South Carolina and Fort Wadsworth, Staten Island, New York. Following his years of service, Dan joined his father in the road contracting business. He later became co-owner of Ledgeville Coal Company and Iron River Incorporated.
Dan was a talented craftsman and enjoyed woodworking, mechanics and the Green Bay Packers.
Mr. Ryan is survived by his brother, Timothy M. Ryan Sr. (Beverly), his sister, Margaret Ann Greenfield, his brothers, Patrick F. Ryan (Sandi) and Dennis K. Ryan (Linda) and a sister-in-law, Ute Ryan. He is survived by eleven nieces and nephews: David Ryan, William Ryan, Mary (Anthony) Precopio, Susan (Karl) Dahlen, Anne (Kevin) Plaxin, Stephanie (Richard) Judge, Eileen Ryan, Timothy Ryan Jr. (Christine Kutch), Rachel (Andrew) Neilson, Richard Ryan and Matthew Ryan. He also has eight great nieces and four great nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, William W. Ryan, his mother, Myrtle A. Ryan, his brother, William E. Ryan, his brother-in-law, W. Edward Greenfield and his nephew, Phillipp J. Ryan.
A mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, April 5, 2024, in the Chapel at Christ the King Manor in DuBois, Pennsylvania. Visitation will be held at 10:30 a.m. until the time of service. Committal will be held at 2:30 p.m. in the chapel at Calvary Cemetery in Clearfield, Pennsylvania.
The Ryan family would like to thank the residents and staff of Christ the King Manor and Father Matt for all they did to make Dan’s stay there so fun, entertaining and memorable!
