Delain Barrett

October 15, 1933 — March 11, 2006

Delain F. "Chief" Barrett, 72, of Curwensville died on Saturday, March 11, 2006 at his residence.

Born October 15, 1933 at Kerrmoor, he was a son of Perry and Sadie (Wiley) Barrett.

He was Protestant by faith.
Mr. Barrett was the past Commander of the Curwensville American Legion Post No. 505 and a member of the Robert Ferguson Post No. 842 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of Curwensville.
He was also a member of the Fleet Reserve of DuBois and the Curwensville Rescue Hose and Ladder Fire Company.
Mr. Barrett served for 20 years with the US Navy retiring in 1971.
He retired from Hepburnia Coal Company in 1995, after 22 years of service.
After his retirement, he would return to work as a foreman and loader operator when needed until December of 2005.

He is survived by his wife, Viola (Rowles) Barrett, whom he wed September 2, 1971, at O’Shanter.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two children, Eric Barrett of Curwensville and Dawn Martin and her husband, Dean, of Smicksburg; four grand-children, Justin, Jennifer, Austin and Hunter; two great-grandchildren, Mackenzie and Madison; and a step-grandchild.

Also surviving are five brothers, Elwood Barrett of New York, Boyd Barrett, Glenn 'Pete' Barrett, and Calvin Barrett, all of Curwensville, and Dennis Barrett of Clearfield; four sisters, Ruth Witherite of New York, Yvonne Edgar of Florida, Patricia Witherite of Curwensville RD and Carol Stiles of Curwensville; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Barrett was preceded in death by his first wife, Geraldine Barrett on April 16, 1966; and a sister, Ethel Barrett.

At the request of Mr. Barrett, there will be no public visitation or funeral services.
Interment will be at Mount Zion Cemetery, Olanta RD.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to DuBois Regional Medical Center Hospice, 100 Hospital Drive, DuBois.
