Delila F. ""Dee"" Shimmel, 83
of Clearfield died on Wednesday, May 3, 2006 at Clearfield Hospital.
She was born on July 8, 1922 in Wilcox, PA, a daughter of the late Merle and Cecelia (Deal) Bowley.
Mrs. Shimmel received her diploma as a registered nurse from St. Vincent Hospital School of Nursing in Erie. She then served with the US Army during WWII. Following her marriage, she was employed at the Clearfield Hospital and later in individuals homes, including Mr. Richard Peale for whom she cared for, for seven years.
She was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church, Clearfield.
She is survived by her husband, Sylvester H. Shimmel, whom she married on November 3, 1949 in Rasselas, PA,
a son, George Dudley Shimmel of Clearfield; two sisters and a brother, Phyllis Shifter of Clearfield and Kathleen Mills of Johnsonburg and Joseph Bowley of AZ; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two infant children, a sister Jane Kitko and a brother George Bowley.
Mass of Christian Burial will be said at St. Francis Catholic Church, Clearfield on Friday at 10:00 A.M. with Msgr. Henry L. Krebs as celebrant. Interment will follow in the Calvary Cemetery, Clearfield.
Military honors will be accorded at the cemetery by the members of the Clearfield American Legion Post #6 and Clearfield VFW Post #1785.
Friends will be received at the Kevin A. Beardsley Funeral Home, Clearfield on Thursday from
5-8:00 PM and on Friday from 9-9:30 AM.
A Christian Vigil Service will be held at the funeral home on Thursday at 7:45 PM.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Saint Francis Catholic Church, 212 S. Front Street, Clearfield.
