Donald W. Bailey, 81, of Clearfield died on Sunday, February 5, 2006 at Clearfield Hospital.
He was born on February 8, 1924 in Clearfield, a son of the late Alvin and Ada (Dillon) Bailey.
Mr. Bailey and his wife owned and operated Bailey's Concession Stand for many years and also the former Don's Lunch of Clearfield.
He retired as an ironworker after many years of membership in the Ironworkers union Local #772.
During WW II, Mr. Bailey served with the US Army Second Ranger's Battalion and in the US Navy. He was awarded the Bronze Star, the Silver Star and a Purple Heart.
He was a 56 year member of the F. Michael Sicks Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #1785 of Clearfield where he served as a quartermaster and service officer.
He also belonged to the Clearfield American Legion John Lewis Shade Post #6, the Clearfield Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #812, the Old Town Sportsman's Club, the Church of Christ and was a Penn State Alumni.
On June 28, 1947 in England he wed Levina M. Peg Norman who survives along with four children, Donna Kyler and husband James of Clearfield, Rev. Gary Bailey and wife Marsha of OH, Allan 'Red' Bailey of Clearfield, Gary Bailey of Altoona, 11 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, four brothers and three sisters, Ray Bailey of NY, Shirley Fulmer of NY, Ben Bailey of Clearfield, Dorothy McCracken of Lumber City, Dave Bailey of Clearfield, Jim Bailey of Clearfield, Ruth Rougeux of Clearfield; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister Okla and two brothers Glenn and Walter.
Funeral services will be held at the Kevin A. Beardsley Funeral Home, Clearfield on Wednesday at 11:00 A.M. with Rev. John King officiating. Interment will follow in the Hillcrest Cemetery, Clearfield.
Military honors will be accorded at the cemetery by the members of the Clearfield American Legion Post #6 and Clearfield VFW Post #1785.
Friends will be received at the funeral home on Tuesday from 2-4 & 7-9 PM and on Wednesday from
10-11:00 AM.
