Dr. Donald M. Casteel, 85, of Clearfield died on Saturday, October 5, 2013 at his home, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born on June 13, 1928 in Trauger, a son of the late J. Marshall and Nora (Riley) Casteel.
Dr. Casteel received his Doctor of Chiropractic in 1951 from the Palmer School of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa and was a well-known Chiropractor in Clearfield who equally loved his work and patients. He referred many young men and women into the profession, including three sons and seven of his grandchildren. Dr. Casteel had many interests in life including being a horseman and a wrangler. He also had a passion for motorcycling. and had taught many family members to enjoy riding. He also loved spending time snowmobiling with his family and was one of the first active snowmobilist in the Clearfield area, a place which he so adored. Don also loved traveling with his wife in the family RV, especially their trips to Florida. He will be remembered for his interest in hunting, the Pittsburgh Steelers and Pirates, Penn State Football and listening to the Clearfield Bison football games on the radio.
He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Clearfield, the PA Chiropractic Association and a 50 year member of the Free and Accepted Masons Lodge #314, Clearfield and the Clearfield American Legion John Lewis Shade Post # 6. Dr. Casteel served our country as a Corporal with the U. S. Army.
He is survived by his wife, Zaneth (McGiffin) Casteel whom he wed August 16, 1949 and just celebrated being married 64 years; five children, Karen Miller and husband Dennis of Clearfield, Dr. Gary M. Casteel and wife Vickie of Curwensville, Donna Collins and husband Marty of Clearfield, Dr. Mark B. Casteel and wife Kerri of Clearfield and Dr. Scott B. Casteel and wife Melessa of DuBois; twelve grandchildren Brent Miller, Kurt Miller and wife Kelsey, Ryan and Aaron Collins, Dr.'s Keely, Joel, and Ian Casteel, Kathleen, Dr. Coulton and Gavan Casteel, and Palmer and Chloe Casteel; and a brother-in-law, Wilmer McGiffin and wife Jane of Mt. Pleasant.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three grandchildren, Dr. Josh Casteel, Martin Collins II and Jedd Collins.
Funeral services will be held at the Trinity United Methodist Church, Clearfield on Tuesday at 11 AM with Rev. Penney Rahm officiating. Interment will be in the Crown Crest Memorial Park, Hyde.
Military honors will be accorded at church by the members of the Clearfield VFW and American Legion Posts' Honor Guards.
Friends will be received at the Kevin A. Beardsley Funeral Home, Clearfield on Monday from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM and at the church on Tuesday from 10-11 AM.
