Dr. Bruce Blauch, 79
retired assistant professor in the College of Veterinary Medicine at Kansas State University, died on Saturday, January 8, 2005 at Mercy Regional Health Center in Manhattan, KS.
He was born on February 28, 1925 in Philadelphia, a son of the late Charles D. and Gladys (Shearer) Blauch.
He graduated from Upper Darby High in Upper Darby, PA in 1942, and received his B.S. from Penn State University in 1949, and his VMD from the University of Pennsylvania in 1956. He had additionally studied at Marshall College in Huntington, West Virginia and at Oklahoma State University. He earned his Masters Degree in 1969.
Dr. Blauch served several years in private veterinary practice and became an instructor in the Department of Surgery Medicine, Oklahoma State University, in 1958. He was appointed assistant professor in 1962, but turned to graduate studies in 1965, accepting an instructorship at Kansas State University. He served as a teaching clinician at Dykstra Veterinary Hospital, focusing his teaching and research for the rest of his career on diseases of the nervous systems of dogs and cats. He was appointed assistant professor in the Department of Surgery and Medicine in 1973, and was promoted to associate professor in 1977. Dr. Blauch was acknowledged by students and colleagues alike as a skilled veterinary neurologist. He is recognized for having made important advances in the understanding of brain and spinal cord disease of dogs and cats, having developed an extensive library of film in neurology of the clinical features of these diseases. He had also developed extensive video studies in the ophthalmology in dogs and cats. He was published three times in the Journal of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Blaugh retired in 1988.
Dr. Blauch served in the US Army Air Corp from July 1943 to January 1946 as a fighter pilot.
He is survived by two sisters,

and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Rosemary (Chase) Blauch on February 5, 2000 and whom he married August 16, 1958 in Philadelphia.
Funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family and interment will be in the Calvary Cemetery, Clearfield.
