Edna Claire Irwin, 95, of Curwensville passed away on Sunday, December 11, 2016 at the Ridgeview Elder Care and Rehabilitation Center, Curwensville.
She was born on November 15, 1921 in Clearfield, a daughter of the late Lloyd and Pearl Rowles.
Edna graduated from Curwensville High School in 1940. She enjoyed many hobbies during her life including sewing clothes for her family and painting many beautiful oil paintings that can be found in the homes of her family and friends. She also enjoyed quilting quilts that she gave to her family as gifts.
She worked at many different places during her life but her joy was when she owned and operated The Claire Shoppe in Curwensville. Following the closing of this store, she began working at Brody's in Clearfield where she remained for 28 years until the store closed.
Edna was a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church of Curwensville. She enjoyed teaching the Ladies Sunday School class in early years. She also taught vacation bible school classes, Junior Church and served as president of the Ladies Christian Belles Club for several years. She and her husband served together as church greeters. Edna was also a charter member of the Business and Professional Women's Club of Curwensville and served as past president.
She is survived by three children, Benny Irwin and wife Barbara, Autumn Norris and husband Jim and Deanna Baughman and husband Rex, all of Curwensville; nine grandchildren, Laura Vickerman, Dan Irwin, Spencer Irwin, James Norris, Dr. Ruthanna Davi, Rebecca Wills, Tom Baughman, Jenny Peacock and David Baughman; great grandchildren, Max and Will Vickerman, Alex and Jacob Irwin, Katie and Chris Norris, Nate and Lizzy Davi, Brady and Lauren Wills, Kaylee and Harrison Peacock and Kendon, Shannon, Derek, Mason, Torin and Roan Baughman; and many nieces and nephews. Edna was the last of her generation.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Max Daniel Irwin on September 22, 2009 and whom she wed March 16, 1940 in DuBois. She was also preceded in death by an infant daughter, Amy Claire Irwin; and a brother, Martin James Rowles and his wife Eunice.
Funeral services will be held at the First Baptist Church, Curwensville on Thursday at 11 AM with Rev. Daniel M. Osterhout officiating. Interment will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery, Curwensville.
Friends will be received at the Kevin A. Beardsley Funeral Home, Curwensville on Wednesday from 6-8 PM and at the church on Thursday 10-11 AM.
