Edward H. Harley, 93, of Clearfield died on Monday, February 18, 2008 at his residence.
He was born on April 12, 1914 in Curwensville, a son of the late Frank and Frances (Holden) Harley.
In 1957, Mr. Harley opened his own business in Clearfield, the NAPA Auto Parts Store. He sold the store in 1967 to NAPA of Pittsburgh and continued to manage both their Clearfield and Curwensville stores. He retired in 1989 after 22 years of service.
He was a graduate of the Curwensville High School.
He was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church of Clearfield, a past-member and past president of The Men's Club of St. Francis, a past member and past president of the Kiwanis Club of Clearfield, a past member of the Board of Directors of the Clearfield YMCA, a life member of the Clearfield Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks Lodge #540 and a member of the Grandview Golf Club.
An avid bowler, Mr. Harley participated for 51 years in state bowling tournaments.
He was a wonderful husband and father and is survived by five children, M. Rebecca 'Becky' Harley of Harrisburg, Earl 'Mac' Harley of Woodland, Mark E. Harley and wife Carol of Clearfield, Michael R. Harley of Woodland, and Timothy F. Harley of Clearfield; a granddaughter, Yvonne Lehman and husband Fred of Clearfield; a great granddaughter, Jordan Lehman of Clearfield; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Genevieve (McHenry) Harley on July 22, 1997 and whom he wed on November 30, 1938 at St. Francis Rectory in Clearfield by Father Martin M. Glynn. He was also preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters, William and Frederick Harley and Dorothy Ross and Mary Hile.
He was the last member of his immediate family.
Mass of Christian Burial will be said at St. Francis Catholic Church, Clearfield on Friday at 10:00 AM with Msgr. H Desmond McGee, Jr. as celebrant. Interment will follow in the Saint Mary Catholic Cemetery, Frenchville.
Friends will be received at the Kevin A. Beardsley Funeral Home, Clearfield on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9:00 PM and on Friday from 9-9:30 AM.
At the funeral home on Thursday, a Christian vigil service will be held at 1:45 PM and the Elks memorial service will be held at 6:45 PM.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Saint Francis Educational Endowment Fund, 212 South Front Street, Clearfield or to the charity of one's choice,
