Edward Min Lee, 86, of Clearfield died on Friday, November 20, 2009 at his residence.

He was born on September 4, 1923 in Philadelphia, PA, a son of the late John S. and Violet Mei Ling Lee.

Upon graduation from Upper Southampton High School, he attended Virginia Polytechnic Institute in Blacksburg, VA. In his sophomore year of college, he was drafted into the U.S. Army and served in World War II as Staff Sgt. with the 26th Infantry. For his meritorious service in France, including participation in the Battle of the Bulge, Mr. Lee earned the Bronze Star and two Purple Hearts. After his military service, he graduated from George Washington University with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering.

At the start of his career, Mr. Lee worked as a Section Chief for the Rural Electrification Administration at the United States Department of Agriculture in Washington, D.C. In 1957, he moved to Clearfield and became a partner with the engineering firm of Yost Bromfield & Hess (later named Yost Associates). Subsequently, Mr. Lee became President of Lee-Simpson Associates in DuBois, Pennsylvania. Mr. Lee was a registered professional engineer in Pennsylvania, New York, Ohio, Michigan, West Virginia, Maryland, and Delaware.

In retirement, Ed enjoyed playing golf, making furniture, collecting coins, spending winters in New Smyrna Beach, Florida, and traveling to visit his children and grandchildren. Mr. Lee was a member of the Clearfield-Curwensville Country Club, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Disabled American Veterans, American Legion, and Pennsylvania Association of Professional Engineers.

He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Marie Elizabeth (Hedstrom) Lee, whom he wed June 5, 1948 in the chapel of the George Washington University.

Also surviving are six children, Linda Lee Wainright and her husband John of Boalsburg, PA, Edward Michael Lee and his wife Judith of Erie, PA, Catherine Marie Lee of Corry, PA, Margaret Lee Baskette and her husband Patrick of Tampa, FL, Timothy F. Lee of Germantown, MD, Deborah Lee Sanko and her husband William of Fairview, PA,

fifteen grandchildren, John Wainright , Elizabeth Wainright, Erin Lee Bailey and husband Robert, Edward Lee, Evan Lee, Ean Lee, Janelle Gose and husband Brian, Maureen Meuller and husband Jeremy, Elliott Ferguson, Bryce Ferguson, Mary Elizabeth Baskette, Izabelle Baskette, Geoffrey Sanko, Molly Sanko and Garrett Sanko

and two great-grandchildren, Katelyn Gose and Morgan Gose.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, John G. Lee, loving daughter, Mary Jayne Lee Ferguson and grandson, Gregory Olson Sanko.

Funeral services will be held at the Kevin A. Beardsley Funeral Home, Clearfield on Monday at 11:00 A.M. with Msgr. H. Desmond McGee, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in the Crown Crest Memorial Park, Hyde.

Friends will be received at the funeral home on Sunday from 2-4 & 6-8 PM.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the St. Francis Educational Endowment Fund, 212 S. Front Street, Clearfield or to the Joseph and Elizabeth Shaw Public Library, 1 S. Front Street, Clearfield.
