Edward T. Sipes, Sr. 78
of Curwensville died on Sunday, August 3, 2008 at Miner's Medical Center in Hastings.
He was born on September 14, 1929 in Curwensville, a son of the late Leland H. Sr. and Margaret C. (Ruffner) Sipes.
Mr. Sipes was formerly employed by Bob's Army and Navy Store of Clearfield. He, his wife and his brother also owned and operated Sipes Ceramics of Curwensville.
In addition, he was previously employed by the former Clearfield Hardware and Beltone Cleaners in Torrence, CA. He also was employed by Stauffer Chemical in Carson, CA. as a warehouse man.
He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and served with the United States Navy from 1947 until 1968 retiring as a BMC.
He is survived by his wife, E. Marie (Howard) Sipes, whom he wed January 30, 1976 in Long Beach, CA
five children, Edward T. Sipes, Jr. and wife Marcie of Los Angeles, CA, Marsha Stewart of Vancouver, WA, Michelle Oxley of Glendale, AZ, Melissa Sipes of Orange County, CA and Adam Leland Sipes of Curwensville, four step-children, James E. Brooks, Sr. and wife Evelyn of Puyallup, WA, Serrano R. Brooks and wife Linda of Monterey Park, CA, Eugenio P. Gabriola of Curwensville, Vonda M. Addire and husband Terry of Lenoir, NC, 16 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, a sister and two brothers, Connie Jean Young and husband Donald of Roanoke, VA, Leland H. Sipes and wife Irene of Curwensville, Franklin C. Sipes and wife Mary Ann of Curwensville and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Kathleen (Conner) Sipes in 1973, two sisters, Mary Lou Shreffler and Martha Jean Smith and two brothers, John C. Sipes and Kenneth E. Sipes.
Funeral services will be held at the Kevin A. Beardsley Funeral Home, Curwensville on Friday at 11 AM with Bishop Jeffrey Hipps, of Philipsburg, officiating. Interment will be in the Grand Valley Cemetery, Moab, UT.
Military honors will be accorded at the funeral home by the members of the Clearfield American Legion Post #6 and Clearfield Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #1785 honor guards.
Friends will be received at the funeral home on Thursday from 5-8 PM and on Friday from 10-11 AM.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society, 26 South Second Street, Clearfield, PA 16830.
