Elbert A. Harshberger, 89
of Curwensville and most recently of Pine Crest Manor in St. Marys died on Sunday, July 11, 2004 at Elk Regional Health Center.
He was born on January 11, 1915 in Pitcairn, PA, a son of the late Austin and Stella (Scott) Harshberger.
Mr. Harshberger retired in 1979 as a foreman from the former North American Refractories after 22 years of service. He was also a partner in Curwensville Motor Service and other area businesses.
Mr. Harshberger was a member of the Free and Accepted Masons Noble Lodge #480, the Clearfield Shriners Club, the Jaffa Shrine, the Clearfield Hobbie Garden Club, the Woodland Senior Citizens Club, a life member of the Curwensville Rescue Hose and Ladder where he served as financial secretary for many years, a member of the Master Gardener Program thru the Pennsylvania State University Co-operative Extension, a past Cub Scout Leader, past Pike Township auditor, a member of the Curwensville Area School Board and member of the Robert Ferguson Post #842 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of Curwensville. He was a member of the Curwensville United Methodist Church where he served as treasurer for many years, was a youth counsler and a member of the church choir. He served in the Navy during World War II.
He is survived by his wife, Jean (Deacon) Harshberger, whom he married July 13, 1941 in Morrisdale,

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister Stella Harshberger.
Funeral services will be held at the Curwensville United Methodist Church on Thursday at 11:00 AM with Rev. Arlene P. Beechert officiating. Interment will follow in the Allport Cemetery.
Military honors will be accorded at the graveside by the members of the Clearfield American Legion and V.F.W. Posts.
Friends will be received at the Kevin A. Beardsley Funeral Home, Curwensville on Wednesday from 2-4 & 7-9 PM and on Thursday at Curwensville United Methodist Church from 10-11:00 AM.
A Masonic Service will be held at the funeral home at 6:30 PM on Wednesday by members of the Free and Accepted Masons Noble Lodge #480.
