Elsie Joyce Shirey, 85, of Clearfield passed away on Saturday, August 27, 2022 at Penn Highlands Clearfield.
She was born on August 6, 1937 in Glen Richey, a daughter of the late Maurice 'Dutch' and Olive (Peoples) Haney.
Mrs. Shirey was a member of West Side United Methodist Church. She was part of the Clearfield High School Class of 1955, and went on to be the Clearfield County Director of the American Cancer Society for 30 years.
Joyce's family was her life. Whether it was her children, grandchildren, or great grandchildren, she was always taking care of someone. She loved spending time with her family and watching her kids play sports (...while cheering and rooting very, very passionately!). She enjoyed reading and scrapbooking, making a scrapbook for every child and grandchild. When she wasn't with her family, she enjoyed going on trips with her high school classmates and playing cards, especially pinochle with family and card-club friends.
She is survived by her husband, Ardell D. Shirey, whom she wed October 9, 1954; six children Gregory (Marion) Shirey of Indiana, Glenn (Patricia) Shirey of Bellefonte, Garry (Judy) Shirey of Curwensville, Guy (Patty) Shirey of Pittsburgh, Dana (Rob) Buchanan of Charlotte, NC, and Amy Jo (Brian) Collins of Clearfield; her 16 grandchildren, Brian (Michelle) Shirey, Laura Beth (George) Urban, Jason (Jacqueline) Shirey, Amanda (Jacob) Smith, Kristen (Ben) Lieb, Lindsay (Terry) Whalen, Kyle (Jessie) Shirey, Evan (Mina) Shirey, Eric (Jessica) Shirey, Colby (Zak) Campbell, Taylor Buchanan and fiance Brandon Lee, Ethan Buchanan, Caitlyn Collins (Manny Megofna), Ashley Collins, Nicholas Collins, and Parker Collins; and her 20 great grandchildren Kelsey, Kaylee Joyce, Connor, Shea, Harper, Isabelle, Logan, Quentin, Violet, Daniel, Luke, Jake, Beau, Jordy, Landon, Brooke, Lucas, Nicholas, Jolene, and Jordyn; and sister-in-law, Maxine Waple; numerous nieces and nephews; and other extended family members.
She enjoyed the annual Shirey family reunions, and was able to attend and enjoy this year's reunion at Parker Dam State Park this past June with all 62 family members and other extended family.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Jerry Haney and his wife Patricia; and two sisters Joanne Wisor and Verna Jean Thompson.
Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. Interment will be at the Pine Grove Cemetery.
Beardsley Funeral Home and Crematory, Clearfield is in charge of the arrangements.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Pine Grove Cemetery, 12 Carbon Mine Road, Clearfield, PA 16830; or the Stoneville Cemetery Association, 1049 Creek Road, Clearfield, PA 16830.
