Ethel Hewitt

Ethel N. Hewitt, 100, of Curwensville died on Monday, September 30, 2013 at the Ridgeview Elder Care and Rehabilitation Center, Curwensville.

She was born on January 2, 1913 in S. Philipsburg, a daughter of the late M. Harrison and Ruth (Kelly) Northamer.

Mrs. Hewitt retired from the former McGregor Sportswear in 1976. Prior to that she was employed at the former parachute factory in Curwensville and also the shipyards in Baltimore, MD. In addition, she worked as a waitress in the Curwensville area.
She was a member of Curwensville United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women and served as a Sunday School teacher for 50 years. She also was a member of the Rhoda Rebekah Lodge.

She is survived by a son William Hewitt and his wife Jean of Curwensville; six grandchildren, Michael Robert Hewitt of Boston, MA, Terri Lea Assael of State College, Tracy Linn Petrone and husband Johnathan of Curwensville, Karen Renee Gearhart and husband John of Frisco, TX, Richard Kenneth Hewitt of VA and Dennis Hewitt and wife Kathy of Lake Mary, FL; five great grandchildren; and three nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon K. Hewitt on March 26, 1973 and whom she wed February 6, 1934 in Philipsburg; a son, Richard Hewitt; a daughter-in-law Mildred Hewitt; and a sister, Louella Shinafelt.

Funeral services will be held at the Curwensville United Methodist Church on Saturday at 11:00 AM with Rev. Dr. Robert S. Ludrowsky officiating. Interment will follow in the Crown Crest Memorial Park, Hyde.

Friends will be received at the Kevin A. Beardsley Funeral Home, Curwensville on Friday from 4-7 pm and at the church on Saturday from 10-11 am.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Curwensville United Methodist Church, 602 State Street, Curwensville.
