Frances L. Valenza, 88
of Clearfield died on Saturday, October 17, 2009 at Clearfield Colonial Courtyard.
She was born on April 18, 1921 in Clearfield, a daughter of the late Libo and Salvatrice (Catalana) Valenza.
She retired from the U.S. Department of Agriculture in 1983 and prior to that had been employed by Praves Beauty Shop.
She was a 1939 graduate of Clearfield High School.
She was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church, Clearfield where she taught Sunday school for twenty years, served as an Eucharistic minister and on church council. Also, she was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America Court #498 and the Rosary and Altar Society. Miss Valenza was a RSVP Volunteer at the Clearfield Hospital Cottage Shop, the American Cancer Society and the Clearfield County Historical Society.
She is survived by a sister and brother, Angeline Mistretta of Bricktown, NJ, Carl A. Valenza of Clearfield, five nieces and nephews, and several great nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother Joseph J. Valenza.
Mass of Christian Burial will be said at St. Francis Catholic Church, Clearfield on Wednesday at 10:00 A.M. with Msgr. H. Desmond McGee as celebrant. Interment will follow in the Calvary Cemetery, Clearfield.
Friends will be received at the Kevin A. Beardsley Funeral Home, Clearfield on Tuesday from
2-4 and 6-8 PM and on Wednesday from 9-9:30 AM.
At the funeral home on Tuesday, a Christian Vigil Service will be held at 5:45 PM and the Rosary will be recited at 6:00 PM.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Saint Francis Educational Endowment Fund or St. Francis Catholic Church, 212 South Front Street, Clearfield or to the Clearfield Foundation for Health-Hospice, PO Box 992, Clearfield.
