Franklin G. Sankey, Sr., 78 of Clearfield died on Monday, September 18, 2006 at DuBois Regional Medical Center - West.
He was born on January 17, 1928 in Clearfield, a son of the late Clyde G. and Helen
(Thompson)Sankey, Sr.
Mr. Sankey was a dairy farmer and owned and operated Sankeycrest Farm.
He was a 4-H leader and active in the Penn State Co-Operative Extension, the local and state PA Farm Bureau, the PA and National Holstein Association and the Agriculture Soil Conservation Service. Mr. Sankey served as a local director for Agway and was a cattle superintendent for the Clearfield County Fair. He also called square dancing.
He was a member of the Free and Accepted Masons, Clearfield Lodge No. 314, the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Lodge Council Chapter Consistory, and the Goshen Camp. In addition, he served on the Clearfield Area School District Board for 21 years.
A former Goshen Township Supervisor, he was a Judge of Election for Goshen Township and a member of the Goshen Grange.
Mr. Sankey was a member of the Goshen United Methodist Church where he was a trustee and a member of the administrative board.
He is survived by four children, Sharon Bookhamer and husband James of Huntingdon, Mary Ann Way and husband Donald B. of Clearfield, Barbara Sankey and husband Ricky A. of Brisbin, and Franklin 'Bud' Sankey, Jr. and wife Dawn of Clearfield; 14 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren; a brother, John R. Sankey and wife Dorthea of Clearfield; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce J. (Cartwright) Sankey on June 11, 2003 and whom he married September 18, 1948 in Goshen Methodist Church, a brother C. George Sankey, Jr., and an infant sister.
Funeral services will be held at the Goshen United Methodist Church, Clearfield RD on Thursday at 11:00 A.M. with Rev. Jennifer C. Heikes officiating. Interment will follow in the Goshen Cemetery, Clearfield RD.
Friends will be received at the Kevin A. Beardsley Funeral Home, Clearfield on Wednesday from 2-5 & 6-9 PM and on Thursday at the church from 10-11:00 AM
A Masonic service will be recited at the funeral home on Wednesday at 8:00 PM.
