Frederick C. Pizzella, 81

of Clearfield died on Monday, October 4, 2004 in his home where he was born on August 8, 1923. He was the son of Anthony and Rose (Bello) Pizzella. He was married on July 12, 1948 to former Evelyn Kotzbauer at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church and was the devoted father of 6 children, 19 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

A lifelong resident of Clearfield’s East End, Mr. Pizzella was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church and volunteered with the parish’s Care & Concern ministry. He retired in 1979, after seventeen years of service as a television repairman. Prior to that he was employed at the former DuMont Airplane & Marine (Sylvania) for 10 years and was a member of the IBEW. He also worked at PennDOT and on the New York Central Railroad.

Mr. Pizzella served in the U.S. Army during WWII in the South Pacific and was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, the F. Michael Sicks Veterans of Foreign Wars Post Number 1785. He was also a member of the Sons of Italy Lodge 189, serving as trustee.

Mr. Pizzella served his community by representing Clearfield’s Fourth Ward on the Borough Council for 19 years. After his retirement he was involved with the RSVP (Retired Seniors Volunteer Program) and the Clearfield Senior Center. He was also an active member of the Susquehanna C.B. Club and the United Commercial Travelers (UCT) where he served on the executive board. Fred also kept himself busy with area projects including the Raftsman Dam, the Area Industrial Development and the downtown Riverfront Festival.

In addition to his wife, Evelyn, he is survived by one sister,

He was preceded in death his parents, one sister, Lucy Beyer and three brothers Lawrence C., Edward A. and infant brother, Anthony, Jr.

Mass of Christian Burial will be said at St. Francis Catholic Church, Clearfield on Thursday at
10:00 A.M. with Rev. Msgr. Henry L. Krebs as celebrant. Interment will follow in the Calvary Cemetery, Clearfield.

Military honors will be accorded at the cemetery by the members of the Clearfield American Legion and VFW Post Honor Guard.

Friends will be received at the Kevin A. Beardsley Funeral Home, Clearfield on Wednesday from
2-4 & 7-9 PM and on Thursday from 9-9:30 AM.

A Christian Vigil Service will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday at 3:30 PM.
