Gerald J. "Smokey" Swoope, 62, of Woodland died on Sunday, February 24, 2008 at his residence.
He was born on June 14, 1945 in Woodland, a son of the late Emory R. and Iva D. (Williams) Swoope, Jr.
Most recently, Mr. Swoope owned and operated Swoope Auto Repair. Prior to that he was employed by Novey Recycling, Lawrence Township, Avery Coal Company and Ogden's Junk Yard.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.
He is survived by his wife, Sibbie J. (Cutler) Swoope, whom he wed July 8, 1972 in West Decatur, two sons, Jeffrey Cutler and wife Bernice of Morrisdale and Brent Swoope of Woodland; two granddaughters, Taylor and Shania; three brothers and a sister, Emory Swoope and wife Mary Ann of Shiloh, Roger Swoope and wife Kathy of Bigler, Sharon Cummings and husband Charlie of Curwensville and Bill Swoope and wife Beth of Shiloh; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at the Kevin A. Beardsley Funeral Home, Clearfield on Thursday at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor Paul Wisor officiating. Interment will follow in the Bradford Cemetery, Woodland.
Friends will be received at the funeral home on Wednesday from 6-9:00 PM and on Thursday from 10-11:00 AM.
