Glenn E. Gross, 81, of Woodland died on Monday, May 14, 2007 at DuBois Regional Medical Center - West.
He was born on January 28, 1926 in Clearfield, a son of the late Paul E. and Mary E. (Barton) Gross.
Mr. Gross was self-employed as the owner of the Glenn E. Gross General Contractor and Builders and was also the owner and operator of Grossview Farms.
He received the Conservation Farmer of the Year Award in 1978.
He attended the St. John Lutheran Church, Clearfield and was a member of Agway, the National Rifle Association and a past member of the Pennsylvania Farmer's Association.
He served with the Merchant Marines during World War II serving on the USAT Appleton Victory, USAT Henry Gibbins, USAT Admiral Sims, USAT Owensboro Victory, USAT Edmund B. Alexander, USNS Sea Flyer, USNS Golden Eagle and the USNS General M.B. Stewart.
Also, during the Korea Era he served in the Atlantic European, the Mediterranean, the Pacific and the Panama Canal.
He is survived by his wife, Frances J. (Graffius) Gross, whom he wed June 19, 1948 in Bigler; four children, Thomas E. Gross and wife Barbara of New Bethlehem, Steven G. Gross and wife Tracy of Woodland RD, Susan Bracco of Clearfield and Patricia A. Mock and husband Ardean of Martinsburg; 14 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; a sister and brother; Audrey Huss and husband Robert of Turtle Point and Duane W. Gross of Rimersburg; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant daughter Janet Marie and a brother Kenneth B. Gross who was killed in the Korean Conflict in 1952.
Funeral services will be held at the Kevin A. Beardsley Funeral Home, Clearfield on Friday at 4:00 P.M. with Rev. Matthew C. Holbert officiating. Interment will follow in the Shiloh Cemetery, RD, Woodland.
Military honors will be accorded at the cemetery by the members of the Clearfield American Legion Post #6 and the Clearfield VFW Post #1785 Honor Guard.
Friends will be received at the Kevin A. Beardsley Funeral Home, Clearfield on Thursday from 2-4:00 & 6-8:00 PM and on Friday from 3-4:00 PM.
