Gregory James Holt, 89, of Old Forge passed away peacefully on Monday, December 19, 2022 at the Wilkes-Barre VA Medical Center surrounded by his wife and children.
He was born on November 6, 1933 in Clearfield, the son of the late James and Hazel (Hubler) Holt.
Mr. Holt served bravely in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. Soon after returning, he started his long career as a truck driver, during which he became known as “Spark Plug” and developed a love of chrome. He was a diehard Pittsburgh Steelers fan and cheered for his team no matter how they played. He loved bowling, playing pool, darts, and basketball with the kids, who he would never let win without earning it.
He is survived by his loving wife, Alma Jean (Stiner) Holt whom he wed December 29, 1970 and had four children with, sons, James Gregory Holt of Old Forge, and Gerald Lynne Holt of Old Forge; daughters, Diana Lynn Holt and Michelle Ann Rhodes, married to Kenneth, of Berwyn, and two children Gregory James Holt and Cynthia Holt whom he had prior to his marriage to Alma Jean. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Gregory Holt, James Holt, Nathan Holt, Jeane Luke Holt, Autumn Holt, Caitlin Holt, Gerald Holt, Jr., Jacob Holt, and Lawrence Rhodes; numerous great-grandchildren; sister, Nancy Sloppy, married to Merv, of Clearfield, and niece, Deborah Gardner, married to Craig, of Clearfield.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Diana Lynn Holt; brother-in-law, Gilbert Woodel, and nephew, Gary Woodel.
He was a member of the Full Gospel Chapel in Avoca.
Funeral services will be held at the Beardsley Funeral Home and Crematory, Clearfield on Wednesday, December 28, 2022 at 11 AM with Rev. Raymond Stiner officiating. Interment will follow in the Gillingham Cemetery, Frenchville.
Military honors will be accorded at the cemetery.
Friends will be received at the funeral home on Tuesday, December 27, 2022 from 4-7 PM and Wednesday from 10-11 AM.
