Hazel Shifter

Hazel E. Shifter, 72 of Clearfield died on Wednesday, April 15, 2009 at Clearfield Hospital.

She was born on September 16, 1936 in Clearfield, a daughter of the late Dayton S. "Dick" and Grace A. (Nebgen) Shifter.

Miss Shifter was the Lawrence Township tax collector from 1990 until retiring in 2008. Prior to that, she was the deputy tax collector for 28 years.
She was a member of the St. Francis Catholic Church, Clearfield and the Ladies Auxiliary Lawrence Township Fire Hall Station No. 5.

She is survived by a brother,
Clyde A. Shifter and wife Eleanor of Clearfield

two sisters,
Roselia Koozer of Clearfield
Helen Jean Owens and husband George W. of Clearfield

two sisters-in-law,
Lois Shifter of Clearfield
Phyllis Shifter of Clearfield

and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, John D., Gordon J. and Doryce L. "Doc" Shifter, and two sisters, Geraldine Turner, and Sylvia Green.

Mass of Christian Burial will be said at the St. Francis Catholic Church, Clearfield on Saturday at 10:00 A.M. with Rev. Joseph C. Campbell as celebrant. Interment will follow in the Calvary Cemetery, Clearfield.

Friends will be received at the Kevin A. Beardsley Funeral Home, Clearfield on Friday from 4-8:00 PM and on Saturday from 9-9:30 AM

A Christian Vigil Service will be held at the funeral home on Friday at 3:45 PM.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to American Cancer Society, 26 S. Second Street, Clearfield.
