Helen R. Koren, 83, of Clearfield died on Wednesday, July 11, 2012 at the Clearfield Hospital.
She was born on March 12, 1929 in Madera, a daughter of the late Metro and Anna (Kaniuk) Russin.
Helen was employed six years for Bell Telephone as well as part time at the Knights of Columbus, Clearfield. She also volunteered for 13 years in the cafeteria at St. Francis School.
She was a 1947 graduate of the Moshannon Valley High School. Known for her strong faith in religion, she was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church, Clearfield, the Rosary and Altar Society and the Catholic Daughters of America. She will be remembered for her extreme love for her family and cherished cooking and baking for them. Helen also loved the outdoors where she could enjoy picking berries, taking a walk, or attend one of the local outdoor festivals. She always tried to be active and socialize with many people.
Helen is survived by her husband Michael J. Koren whom she wed July 28, 1951 in Ramey; three children Susan Vigne and husband Michael of Johnstown, Dr. Larry Koren and wife Linda of Ginter and Ronald J. Koren and wife Sandra of Treasure Lake; five grandchildren Shawn, Ryan and Rachel Vigne, Madison and Zachary Koren; two sisters and two brothers Anna Lenkevich of MI, Sue Lindberg of Newington, CT, John Russin and wife Helen of OH and George Russin and wife Barbara of Buffalo, NY.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters Mary Yorke and Nancy Raffin and four brothers Michael, Charles, Frank and Alex Russin.
Above all, Helen will be remembered as a loving wife and a caring mother and grandmother.
Mass of Christian burial will be said at the St. Francis Catholic Church, Clearfield on Monday at 10 AM with Msgr. H. Desmond McGee, Jr. as celebrant. Interment will follow in the Calvary Cemetery, Clearfield.
Friends will be received at the Kevin A. Beardsley Funeral Home, Clearfield on Sunday from 1-4 PM and 6-8 PM and on Monday from 9-9:30 AM.
At the funeral home on Sunday, a Christian Vigil Service will be held at 3:30 PM and the Rosary will be recited at 3:45 PM.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Saint Francis Educational Endowment Fund, 212 South Front Street, Clearfield..
