Helen Smith

Helen A. "Honey" Smith, 75, of Clearfield died on Friday, June 23, 2006 at her residence.

She was born on August 3, 1930 in Renovo, a daughter of the late Hjalmer and Rita (O'Connor) Axelson.

Mrs. Smith was employed with Woolridge Coal Company and Family for 43 years, retiring in 1992.
She was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church, Clearfield, the Rosary and Altar Society and served as a Eucharistic minister. She was also a member of the Clearfield Area School Board for 17 years and served on Clearfield Borough Council.

She is survived by four daughters, Shelley Smith of Denver, CO, Susan Zelenky and husband Joseph of Clearfield, Mary Beth Duke and husband Steve, of Great Falls, MT, and Linda Smith of Germansville, PA; five grandchildren, Arlan Joseph 'AJ' Zelenky, Caitlin Allison, Sarah Allison, Marc Duke and Elizabeth Duke; a great granddaughter, Reianna Duke; a sister and brother, Joanne Taylor and John Axelson and wife Barbara, all of Oil City; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, H. Arlan Smith on May 15, 1987 and whom she married September 25, 1954 in Clearfield, and a sister Janet Lytle.

Mass of Christian Burial will be said at St. Francis Catholic Church, Clearfield on Tuesday at 11:00 A.M. with Rev. Dennis C. Hadberg as celebrant. Interment will follow in the Bradford Cemetery, Woodland.

Friends will be received at the Kevin A. Beardsley Funeral Home, Clearfield on Monday from 2-4 & 7-9 PM and on Tuesday from 9:30 – 10:30 AM.

On Monday at the funeral home, a Christian Vigil Service will be held at 1:30 PM and the rosary will be recited at 6:30 PM.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Circle of Friends of Hospice, % Annie Lumadue 29 West Pauline Drive, Clearfield PA 16830.
