Hile Smith

August 29, 1945 — March 26, 2022

Hile Junior “Butch” Smith, 76, of Karthaus, passed away after losing his battle with cancer on Saturday, March 26, 2022, at his home with his daughter by his side.
Butch was born on August 29, 1945, and was the son of the late Homer H. and Mildred (Krupelak) Smith of LeContes Mills.
Butch graduated from Clearfield Area High School in 1964. He served in the Army Reserves. He worked for K&J Coal Company in Westover and retired from Ameron Construction in State College.
Butch was an avid hunter and angler; he enjoyed hunting and fishing with his children, grandchildren, friends and his best friend and brother, Randy. He traveled to Michigan yearly to continue the family tradition of salmon fishing. Butch made some of his best memories while hunting in Colorado and fishing in Michigan with his family and friends. He was a jack of all trades and an expert of most. He was a member of the Leigey-Renaud VFW Post #8386 and Mosquito Creek Sportsmen’s Club.
Butch is survived by his wife, Barbara Smith (Albert), to whom he married on September 5, 2003; former wife, Sandra Smith; four sons: Robert “Bob” Smith-Walker (partner, Vince White), Christopher (Nikki) Smith, Hile “Butchie” (Peggy) Smith and Tyler (Kelly) Smith; one daughter: Amy Jo (Donald) King; one stepdaughter: Melissa Leigey; eleven grandchildren: Khorey, Josalyne, Gentry, Logan, Skyler, Riley, Shalyn, Madison, Noviah, Lyken and Aspen; four great-grandchildren: Aria, Cooper, Luke and Lilah; three brothers: Ronald Smith, Terry Smith (partner, Pat Robinson), Randy (Sharon) Smith; one sister: Diaan “Diney” Shirey; and four stepsons and two stepdaughters from his marriage with Barbara.
Along with his parents, Butch was preceded in death by his former wife, Catherine “Kitty” Owens; brother-in-law, Richard Shirey; and mother-in-law, Dorothy Albert.
There will be no public viewing; however, a Memorial will be held on April 23, 2022, at 1 p.m. at the Community Alliance Church in Karthaus for those wishing to attend. Butch will be laid to rest privately at Gillingham Cemetery in LeContes Mills.
