James Cassidy

James Edward Cassidy, 80, formerly of Curwensville and most recently of Indiana, died on Tuesday, December 5, 2006 at Indiana Regional Medical Center, Indiana..

He was born on November 17, 1926 in Pike Township, Curwensville, a son of the late Charles and Dorothy (Irwin) Cassidy.

Mr. Cassidy retired as a self employed cement mason.
He was a member of St. Bonaventure Catholic Church, Grampian, the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge #970 of Bristol, PA, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #842 of Curwensville, Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus and a life member of the Disabled American Veterans and the Ancient Order of Hybernias (Irish Society).
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was the recipient of the Purple Heart and the Navy Cross.

He is survived by his wife, Irene K. (Kovall) Cassidy, whom he wed November 18, 1950 at St. Bonaventure Church, Grampian; three children, Patricia Shankle of Camp Hill, Pamela Stefanov of Indiana and Gerald E. Cassidy of Hershey; 6 grandchildren; three sisters, Ethel Lockett of Clearfield, Ruth Narehood of Clearfield and Lynell Gilbert of Texas; and several nephews, and several nieces.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister Dorothy Patton.

Friends will be received at the Kevin A. Beardsley Funeral Home, Curwensville on Thursday from 5-7:00 PM.

A Christian Vigil Service will be held at the funeral home on Thursday at 6:30 PM with Rev. Mark S. Swoger officiating.

Interment will be at Fort Indiantown Gap VA National Cemetery, Annville.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to American Diabetes Association, 300 Penn Center Blvd., Suite 602, Pittsburgh PA 15235.
