James Luzier

November 15, 1921 — February 1, 2008

James E. Luzier, 86 of Clearfield died on Friday, February 1, 2008 at Clearfield Hospital.

He was born on November 15, 1921 in Croft, a son of the late Kyle and Thelma (McGonigal) Luzier.

Mr. Luzier was a school bus driver for R & A School Bus for nine years. Prior to that, he was employed in the strip mines for Boron Coal, K & J Coal, Lingle Coal Co. and the Bradford Coal Co.
He attended the Community Alliance Church of Karthaus and was a former member of the Clearfield Area School Board and the Holmes Safety Association. Also, he was a past master of the Girard Grange and a member of the Pomona Grange. Mr. Luzier participated in the Northern Clearfield County Hymn Sings and assisted with visitation at Mountain Laurel Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for many years. For the past several years, until he was 85, he enjoyed riding his bicycle on the Rails to Trails.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy E. (Showden) Luzier, whom he wed April 7, 1940 in LeContes Mills; three children, James Luzier, Jr. and his wife Helen of LeContes Mills, Thomas Luzier and his wife Kim of Clearfield and Trudy Shaw and her husband Jeff of Clearfield; 8 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, 1 great great-granddaughter; a brother, Ray Luzier and his wife Janet of Corfu, NY; a step-sister, Charlene Buck of Frenchville and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother Clarence Luzier who was killed in
WW II.

Funeral services will be held at the Kevin A. Beardsley Funeral Home, Clearfield on Monday at
1:00 P.M. with Rev. Hiram B. Westover and Rev. Kenneth J. Leonard officiating. Interment will follow in the Eden Cemetery, Shawville, RD.

Friends will be received at the funeral home on Monday from 11:00 AM -1:00 PM.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to American Heart Association, 501 Howard Avenue, Building D, Suite 101, Altoona PA 16601; the Karthaus Community Alliance Church, 34136 Frenchville Karthaus Highway, Karthaus, PA 16845; or to the Clearfield Foundation for Health-Hospice, P.O. Box 992, Clearfield.
