James L. 'Jimmie' Marino, 84, of Clearfield died on Monday, January 25, 2010 at Mountain Laurel Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Clearfield.
He was born on July 19, 1925 in Clearfield, a son of the late Reese and Carrie (Barone) Marino.
A graduate of Clearfield High School in 1943, Mr. Marino attended the Pennsylvania State University in DuBois.
He retired from Penelec in 1990. Prior to that he owned and operated the Young Men's Shop in Clearfield for many years.
He served in the United States Air Force during WWII with the 362 Fighter Squadron and saw action in Central Europe. He obtained the rank of sergeant and received the WWII Victory Medal, European-Africa Middle Eastern Campaign Medal and the Good Conduct Medal for his service.
Mr. Marino was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church, the Clearfield Sons of Italy Lodge #189, the Clearfield American Legion John Lewis Shade Post #6 and the F. Michael Sicks Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1785 and a life member of the United Commercial Travelers #621.
He is survived by his wife, Lucy P. (Marra) Marino, whom he wed February 10, 1959 in Clearfield; and an aunt, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian Burial will be said at St. Francis Catholic Church, Clearfield on Thursday at 10 AM with Msgr. H. Desmond McGee, Jr. as celebrant. Interment will follow in the Calvary Cemetery, Clearfield.
Military honors will be accorded at the cemetery by the members of the Clearfield American Legion and VFW Posts honor guard.
Friends will be received at the Kevin A. Beardsley Funeral Home, Clearfield on Wednesday from
4-7 PM and on Thursday from 9-9:30 AM.
A Christian Vigil Service will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday at 3:45 PM.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Saint Francis Educational Endowment Fund, 212 South Front Street, Clearfield PA 16830.
