James E. 'Jim' Swanson, 80, of Woodland died on Friday, August 4, 2017 at his home.
He was born on February 1, 1937 in Woodland, a son of the late Frederick and Delores (Woolever) Swanson.
Mr. Swanson graduated from Clearfield High School in 1955. He retired from Penn State University in March 1999. Mr. Swanson had also been employed by Piper Aircraft Corporation for nineteen years.
Mr. Swanson was a member of St. Francis Church and the Knights of Columbus, Clearfield #409. He was also a member of the Frenchville Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #8386, the Moshannon Lodge No. 391, Free and Accepted Masons of Philipsburg and a former member of the National Rifle Association. He was also an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed being part of the Fly Tying of Mutton Hall.
A veteran of the U.S. Navy, Mr. Swanson served during the Vietnam War.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia 'Patty' (Martel) Swanson whom he wed November 6, 1959; two children, Jim Swanson, II of Guthrie Center, IA and Teresa Belliveau and husband Ernie of Fairhaven, MA; two grandchildren, Donal James and Emma Katherine and their mother Sherri Worden Swanson; a brother, Ronald Swanson of Lemoyne; a sister, Sharon Hoffman of Lemoyne; two sisters-in-law, Kathy Swanson of FL and Ginger Swanson of Woodland; a brother-in-law, Ronald Martel and wife Eileen of Fairfax, VA; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Fred, Claude and Leonard Swanson; a sister, Leda Wisor and her husband Abe; and a sister-in-law, Fran Swanson.
A memorial mass will be said at the St. Francis Catholic Church, Clearfield on Saturday, August 19, 2017 at 11 AM with Rev. Brandon M. Kleckner as celebrant. Interment will follow in the Bradford Cemetery, Woodland.
Friends will be received at the church on Saturday, August 19, 2017 from 10-11 AM. The Rosary will be recited at 9:30 AM.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the charity of one's choice.
