Jean Berry, 80, of Clearfield died peacefully on Friday, February 4, 2011 at Clearfield Hospital surrounded by her family members.
She was born on January 8, 1931 in Clearfield, a daughter of the late Richard and Rose (Mecca) McLaughlin.
Mrs. Berry was a devoted mother of eight. She was a very active member of St. Francis Catholic Church, Clearfield, serving as a greeter with her husband. She was a member of the Rosary and Altar Society where she was involved for 24 years with the annual Bloodmobile. She was also a volunteer for the bereavement luncheons at the church. Mrs. Berry was a very creative quilter and craftsperson and a member of two local card clubs. She also was a longtime participant in round and square dancing. In addition, Jean and her husband delivered Meals on Wheels in the Clearfield community.
Mrs. Berry will be remembered as a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother.
She is survived by her husband, Thomas L. Berry, whom she wed June 9, 1951 in St. Francis Church, Clearfield,
eight children, Tom Berry and wife Susan of Battle Creek, MI, John Berry and wife Peggy of Clearfield, Barbara Davis and fiance Don Bartley of Clearfield, Kate Pursel and husband Bill of New Cumberland, Margaret Berry of Sacramento, CA, Joe Berry and wife Yvonne of Pearland, TX, Fred Berry and wife Shelli of Grampian, Bob Berry and fiance Janine Dymond of Kingston,
12 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers Joe and Jack McLaughlin, a daughter-in-law Mary (Williams) Berry and a son-in-law Walter Davis.
Mass of Christian Burial will be said at St. Francis Catholic Church, Clearfield on Tuesday at 10:00 A.M. with Msgr. H. Desmond McGee, Jr. as celebrant. Interment will follow in the Calvary Cemetery, Clearfield.
Friends will be received at the Kevin A. Beardsley Funeral Home, Clearfield on Monday from 2-4 & 6-8 PM.
At the funeral home on Monday, a Christian Vigil Service will be held at 1:45 PM and the Rosary will be recited at 3:00 PM.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Saint Francis Educational Endowment Fund, 212 South Front Street, Clearfield, the Clearfield Foundation for Health – Hospice, PO Box 992, Clearfield or to the Joseph and Elizabeth Shaw Public Library, 1 South Front Street, Clearfield.
