N. Jean Harshberger, 102, of Curwensville passed away on Thursday, March 7, 2024 at her home surrounded by family.
She was born on April 12, 1921 in Allport, a daughter of the late Sidney and Jennie (Snedden) Deacon.
Mrs. Harshberger retired in 1983 from the former Barrett Tire after working there for 17 years. Prior to her employment there, she was employed by the former Kantars Department Store.
She was a member of the Curwensville United Methodist Church for 80 years, having served as a Lay Speaker, Trustee, Sunday School Teacher, Youth Counselor, and Delegate of the UN. In addition, she was a past president of the United Methodist Women's Organization and served on the Hospitality Team. She was a 4-H Leader for the Chestnut Ridge Club and a member of the Chestnut Ridge Homemakers Group. Mrs. Harshberger volunteered on the Pike Township Election Board for more than 50 years and was a member of the Clearfield County Republican Committee. Mrs. Harshberger also served as President and Vice-President of the Woodland Senior Citizen's Club. She was also a long-time member of the Clearfield Hobby Garden Club.
She is survived by her son, Joel Harshberger and wife Dolores of Cameron, NC; two daughters, Elaine Young and husband Tom of Polk, and Kathleen Mosier and husband Sam of Curwensville with whom she resided; four grandchildren, Jennifer Lyons, Greg Harshberger, Melissa Dearth, and Maggie (McFadden) Lewis; two step grandchildren, Peter Hallberg and Angela Jones; several great-grandchildren; and one great great-grandchild.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Elbert A. Harshberger on July 11, 2004 and whom she wed July 13, 1941 in Morrisdale. She was also preceded in death by four brothers, Milton Deacon, Thomas Deacon, Sanford Deacon, and Fred Barrett; and a sister, Leah Coble.
Funeral services will be held at the Curwensville United Methodist Church, on Monday, March 11, 2024 at 11 AM with Pastor Don Smith and Pastor Ethan Shearer officiating. Interment will follow in the Allport Cemetery.
Friends will be received at the Beardsley Funeral Home and Crematory, Curwensville on Sunday, March 10, 2024 from 2-5 PM and on Monday from 10-11 AM at the church.
