John Davis

John Lloyd 'King' 'Red' Davis, 82, of Madera died on Wednesday, February 17, 2010 at Clearfield Hospital.

He was born on April 26, 1927 in Blandburg, a son of the late Lloyd E. and Jane E. (Nash) Davis.

Mr. Davis was a retired businessman. He owned and operated John L. Davis Lumber in the Irvona area for over 40 years. During that time he leased coal properties. He also owned the Riverside Motel and the Mariloyd Personal Care Home, both of Clearfield. Previously, he worked as a contractor building houses.

He served with the US Navy Seabees during WWII.

He was Methodist by faith.

Mr. Davis was a member of the Arbor Day Club and had planted over 11, 000 trees a year for many years.

He is survived by his wife, Marita (Wahing) Davis, whom he wed January 25, 1995 in Winchester, VA;
three children, John M. Davis of New Smyrna Beach, FL, Jane E. Davis of Clearfield and Christopher J. Davis and his wife, Lori, of Irvona; four grandchildren, Sheena, Melanie, Christopher and Nicholas; four great grandchildren, Blake, Shay, Luke and Morayo Graham; a brother, William Boyd Davis of Osterburg; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Cecelia (Stover) Davis on June 30, 1991 and whom he married October 12, 1945 in Philipsburg.

Funeral services will be held at the Glad Tidings Assembly of God, Clearfield on Saturday at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor Ken Claflin officiating. Interment will follow in the Philipsburg Cemetery.

Military honors will be accorded at the cemetery by the members of the Moshannon Valley Honor Guard.

Friends will be received at the Kevin A. Beardsley Funeral Home, Clearfield on Friday from
2-4 and 6-8 PM.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to American Cancer Society, 26 S. Second Street, Clearfield or American Heart Association, 501 Howard Avenue, Building D, Suite 101, Altoona PA 16601.
