John R. Morgan, 87
of Chestnut Grove died on Friday, July 16, 2010 at DuBois Regional Medical Center - West.
He was born on August 26, 1922 in Bloom Township, a son of the late Norman C. and Ada Marie (Clark) Morgan.
Mr. Morgan retired in 1983 from Penn Traffic where he was a maintenance supervisor for 15 years and a truck driver for 12 years.
He was a member of the Chestnut Grove United Methodist Church, Grampian, the Free and Accepted Masons Noble Lodge #480, Curwensville and a 32nd degree member of the Altoona Consistory. He was also a member of the Antique Auto Club of America, the Susquehanna Machinery Association, the Edward Arthur Rafferty American Legion Post No. 632, Grampian, and a life member of the Robert Ferguson Post #842 Veterans of Foreign Wars of Curwensville.
He served in the US Army during WWII having earned a number of awards and medals including the Legion of Honor, the Fourrager Croix-de-Guerre and a Purple Heart.
He is survived by two daughters, Pam Wilson and husband George of Grampian, Dawn Aughenbaugh of Luthersburg,
four grandchildren, Christopher Wilson and wife Megan, Melissa Price and husband Neal, Eric Aughenbaugh and wife Lauren, Lindsey Aughenbaugh and fiancé Kenny Barbey,
three great grandchildren,
three sisters and six brothers, Dorothy Hartzfeld and Anna Mae Straw and husband John 'Jack' all of Grampian, Margaret Carfley and husband Albert of Curwensville, Eugene Morgan of Clearfield, Thomas Morgan of Grampian, Fred Morgan and wife Garnet of Luthersburg, James J. Morgan of Grampian RD, Donald Morgan and wife Jane and Robert Morgan and wife Gail all of DuBois,
and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Alberta H. (Lake) Morgan on March 26, 2009 and whom he married July 29, 1948 in Marion Center, a son-in-law, David Aughenbaugh and a sister Geraldine Lias.
Funeral services will be held at the Kevin A. Beardsley Funeral Home, Curwensville on Wednesday at 11:00 AM with Rev. Howard Lindsey officiating. Interment will follow in the Chestnut Grove Cemetery, Grampian, RD.
Military honors will be accorded at the graveside by the members of the Clearfield American Legion and VFW Posts Honor Guard.
Friends will be received at the funeral home on Tuesday from 4 8:00 PM and on Wednesday from 10 11:00 AM.
