John Schell

March 22, 1927 — December 30, 2005

John G. "Jack" Schell, 78, of Clearfield died on Friday, December 30, 2005 at Mountain Laurel Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Clearfield.

He was born on March 22, 1927 in Sewickley, PA, a son of the late Howard and Helen (Gaffney) Schell.

He was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church, Clearfield and served in the US Army during World War II.

Mr. Schell founded Jack's Distributing in Clearfield in 1971 and operated the business until his retirement in 2002. Prior to that, he was an agent for William H. Sadlier Publishing Co. for 17 years.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret L. ‘Peggy’ (Buck) Schell, whom he married June 26, 1954 in Clearfield; two children, James P. Schell and his wife, Jodi, of Clearfield and Katherine Ann Schell-Smith and her husband, Michael, of Fredericksburg, VA; five grandchildren, Janine, Jessica and JP Schell and Kirslyn and Kennedy Schell-Smith; two sisters and a brother, Barbara Miller of Coraopolis, Mary Helen Smith of FL and James D. Schell of Denton, TX; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Sara Ann ‘Sally’ Boisy.

Mass of Christian burial will be said at the St. Francis Catholic Church, Clearfield on Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. with Msgr. H. Desmond McGee, Jr. as celebrant. Interment will follow in the Calvary Cemetery, Clearfield.

Friends will be received at the Kevin A. Beardsley Funeral Home, Clearfield on Tuesday from 6-9 PM and on Wednesday from 9-9:30 AM.

A Christian vigil service will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday at 8:30 PM.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to charity of one's choice.
