John Shifter

John D. Shifter, 88

a resident of Mariloyd Personal Care Home, Clearfield died on Monday, April 7, 2003 at Clearfield Hospital.

He was born on September 7, 1914 in Clearfield, PA, a son of the late Dayton and Grace (Nebgen) Shifter.

Mr. Shifter retired from the Glen-Gery Corporation in 1976 after 42 years of service and also was a farmer for 30 years. He was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church, Clearfield and the Mount Joy Grange.

He is survived by three children,
Fred C. Johnson and wife Ethel Mount Zion, Clearfield
Marji Penix and husband James Trenton, MI
Marcia Coon and husband Kenneth Ft. Wayne, IN

eight grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren,

a brother and five sisters,
Clyde A. Shifter and wife Eleanor Clearfield, PA

Geraldine Turner Clearfield
Sylvia Green Woodland
Helen Owens and husband George Clearfield
Hazel Shifter Clearfield
Roselia Koozer Clearfield

and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Esther (Beauseigneur) Shifter, on November 6, 1998 and whom he married May 7, 1940 in St. Francis Church, Clearfield, a son John Shifter, Jr. and two brothers Gordon J. Shifter and Doryce L. Shifter.

Mass of Christian Burial will be said at St. Francis Catholic Church, Clearfield on Thursday at
10:00 A.M. with Msgr. H. Desmond McGee, Jr. as celebrant. Interment will follow in the Calvary Cemetery, Clearfield.

Friends will be received at the Kevin A. Beardsley Funeral Home, Clearfield on Wednesday from
4 - 8:00 PM.

A Christian Vigil Service will be said on Wednesday at 4:00 PM at the funeral home.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to American Lung Association of Northwest PA , 352 West 8th Street, Erie PA 16502 or St. Francis Catholic Church, 212 S. Front Street, Clearfield.
