Joseph Benedek, Jr. 78

of 310 SW Third Avenue, Clearfield died on Thursday, November 14, 2002 at DuBois Regional Medical Center - West.

He was born on June 13, 1924 in Clearfield, a son of the late Joseph and Fannie (Mecca) Benedek, Sr.

Mr. Benedek, along with his wife, owned and operated the Benedek Body Shop in Clearfield from 1959 until 1981. Following his retirement from the body shop he studied and became a silversmith.
He was a graduate of Clearfield High School and a Fifty-year member of The Presbyterian Church, Clearfield where he served as deacon, trustee and Sunday School treasurer for the youth.
He was a member of the Free and Accepted Masons, Clearfield Lodge #314 where he served as ritual advisor and was a charter member of the DeMolay.
During World War II, he served with the Fourth Armored Division of the US Army.
A life member of the Disabled American Veterans he was also a member of the Clearfield American Legion John Lewis Shade Post #6.

On October 29, 1947 in Winchester, VA he wed Anna Witherow with whom he celebrated 55 years of marriage this past October.

In addition, he is survived by two children,
Lynn McKenzie and husband Scott Clearfield
Joseph Benedek, III and wife Linda Clearfield

four grandchildren,
Janice Aleksivich, Tracy Shaw, Joseph Benedek, IV and Matthew Benedek

2 great granddaughters, McKenna and Haley

and a sister,
Martha Washburn Mahaffey

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four sisters Erma, Olga, Margaret and Youlon .

Memorial services will be held in the Simcox Chapel of the Presbyterian Church, Clearfield on Sunday at 2:00 P.M. with Dr. Douglas S. Pride officiating. Interment will be in the Crown Crest Memorial Park, Hyde.

Military honors will be accorded at the church by the members of the Clearfield American Legion and VFW Posts.

Friends will be received in the Westminster Hall of the Presbyterian Church, Clearfield on Sunday following the service.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to The Presbyterian Church, 119 N. Second Street, Clearfield or Joseph & Elizabeth Shaw Public Library, 1 S. Front Street, Clearfield.
